Indie Game Development
Independent video game development has entered a new phase since the phenomenal success of some indie games on gaming consoles like Xbox 360, PS2 and Wii. Shareware game distribution is no more a hang-out for indie game developers. Online marketing has become very prominent in digital game distribution. Some indie game developers have shifted to open source media to showcase their creative games. However, the means of game distribution depends on many factors like technology used, complexity of the game, depth of artwork, etc.
Some game developers nurture their creativity to explore innovative game mechanics and make video games that can be downloadable or sold commercially. Mostly, such games will be distributed for free. Some closed communities encourage indie games and charge nominal fee for registration but other open source forums fight for ‘software freedom’.
Challenges for indie game developer
Big brains – small gains!
Third party distribution channels that promise transparent digital software distribution (most of these firms do game distribution too) often tend to foster obsolete marketing strategies (for instantaneous gratification) making limited financial returns for indie game developers. This isn’t a very bad news as long as the developer(s) cares for fame but can be a bit of a concern for those want to make fair deals.
There’s no ‘one man army’ in business
What good is a game if it doesn’t reach gamers? If a game is competent enough to compete with other commercial games in the market, it deserves critical acclaim along with a fan-base! This requires proper marketing research that facilitates mutual benefit.
Horse behind the cart!?
As most of the online games are programmer driven, publisher funding won’t a concern. But this is not the case with games for windows and consoles. Some indie game developers are ironically unaware of the reach for their game. Game’s success can’t be predicted unless it goes into the right hands. So why put the horse behind the cart?
Behold the futility of social work
Yes, we mean it. If your game is worth its potential, let it pay you. ‘Free gaming’ is not restricted to flash games. Downloadable games can fill your pocket and book your holiday spot if it makes it to top charts!
Do you have what it takes to create an enthralling player experience through your intriguing video game? Certainly, caliber and technical acumen aren’t sufficient to make a commercial game. It requires an extra edge to launch it into the market and we are here to provide you with that edge.
